MASTER SHORTIE – DANCE LIKE A WHITE BOY (VIDEO)

Before you get it twisted, MS isn’t on some racist ish – he’s simply making the observation that some people get loose and enjoy themselves when in the club while others use it as a chance to lean against the wall and look moody.

BENGA DUBPLATE RINSE OUT

MistaJam & Benga

As I said in my interview with LeftLion Magazine – 2009 is the year that Dubstep & Funky will take over. There’s so much quality music out there, it’s very exciting to be a DJ on national radio to be able to represent all genres and expose this music to a national audience.

I got into dubstep in early 2007 – quite a latecomer really. As with so many of us new school dubstep fans, it was one infectious bassline in particular that got us hooked – Benga & Coki’s “Night”. You could play that record to any crowd: from Rock, to Mainstream, to “Urban” to Dance…and everyone would go nuts. We tried to get Benga on the show to do a guest mix for us. And tried. And tried. Then as Magnetic Man’s “Cyberman” is Jam Hot this week and as Benga is one third of Magnetic Man (alongside Artwork and Skream), we were able to try again to get him into the show and this time we succeeded!

On Tuesday, armed with a bag of the freshest dubplates (yes, real dubplates – VINYL!!); Benga threw down the sickest of guest mixes after a brief interview about his past, present & future:

KANYE WEST – AMAZING FAN VIDEO

Trust GingerKid & the Tropical TV to take the Kanye fan video concept to a whole other level!

SOLDIERS AND TOAST? THE EXPLANATION!

First off, thank you to everyone who’s watched and commented on the ‘Egg Soldiers Beans & Toast’ parody video. Due to overwhelming demand, we’re looking into getting it available as a free download from the Radio 1 website – or a charity download for Comic Relief.

Thanks to those people who have noticed I’ve lost weight too – working hard at it at the moment. I’ve already lost a fair amount (and brought my BMI down significantly) but I’m still nowhere near my target weight for my wedding this summer. If you’re overweight too, watch out for the ‘Wedding Body Plan’ workout DVD with me in 2011!

The reason for this post is to answer all those critics who seem to have a problem with the chorus mentioning two types of toasted bread – one simply being toasted bread cut into strips. To answer your comments:

    • Yes, I know that soldiers are made out of bread.
    • Soldiers sounds very similar to shoulders which is why we used it.
    • No, bacon or sausage wouldn’t have worked better there.
    • If you toast 2 pieces of bread, you would simply cut one up into soldiers to dip into your egg yolk and the other would remain intact to hold your beans on top.
    • Yes, you’re reading far too much into it – IT’S A PARODY!

SCORCHER – I KNOW (VIDEO)

After spending the last hour deleting all the spam comments on this blog, to unwind, I checked out YouTube and to my surprise and horror, found this:

Surprise and horror because when this record was Jam Hot last year, Scorch passed through the studio and promised that I could be in the video….

Great track, great video. Go support Concrete Jungle when it’s out.

@ THE BRITS

Pre-Show Stage

After the dust has settled and the world and it’s dog have all had their say and the ceremony has  been long forgotten thanks to the Oscars, I’ve finally found my camera cable and can upload my photos from The Brits!

If you are following me on twitter you would have been getting my up to the minute updates from The Brits. If you weren’t, in a nutshell – I thought Take That, Estelle & The Ting Tings, U2 and Kings of Leon were the best performances but The Hoff got the biggest cheer of the night from the audience. Estelle should have won an award and the Pet Shop Boys were completely underwhelming.

To say it was my first Brit Awards, I was balling on Jim Jones proportions! I shared a table with the boss of Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Westwood, Nihal, Gemma and the Radio 2 top brass; the head of Audio and Music at the BBC and Jeremy Vine and Claudia Winkleman – a mixed bag!

Claudia Winkleman, Nihal & Big Boss Ben all like a bit of KOL

I came away from the show, ducking out of the after parties (which I of course now regret having heard the stories!!) and got home with one thought in my head: the Brits is very…pop.

When you look at the American equivalent – The Grammies – they celebrate all facets of American (and international) music. Award categories for Country, R&B, HipHop, Pop and many many more genres. Then let’s look at the Brits – nothing for any genre; just pop.

The Brits should start to break it down. We have a great tradition of Rock, Indie, Dance, HipHop, R&B, Folk and Pop in this country to name but a few and we should celebrate it all. Just a thought…

Anyway, Gemma will be pleased: here are the photos!

A NOT SO GREAT VIDEO: PEREMPAY & DEE – IN THE AIR

I LOVE this record – like LOVE LOVE this record…but why is the video so, erm, waste? It really has an air of A-Level Media Studies coursework about it.

A GREAT VIDEO: KID CUDI’S DAY N NITE

The video for the original version of Day N Nite which is soon to be released in the states. Directed by the same guy who directed this and this.

Gwan Cudi – now I completely understand his frustration at the UK Version of the video:
