GYM JAM v2 (FREE DOWNLOAD)
The wait is over!! Here’s the long awaited second installment of the gym jam mix series.
As festival season is rapidly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to tackle some alternative classics interspersed with a few records I think will be hooj for this festival season (including Dizzee’s Bonkers). Part dance, part drum & bass, part rock, part dubstep with a little HipHop and reggae thrown in for good meaure – don’t expect exactly what you know me for on 1Xtra or Radio 1 with this mix – I’m a versatile DJ with an eclectic taste in music so you’d better wreckanize!!
No computer trickery, this was mixed live and digitized and uploaded for your downloading pleasure. The deal is, you use this mix on your iPod/iPhone/other mp3 player or if you’re old skool, your CD walkman in the gym (I swear I saw someone rocking super old school tape in the gym the other day) and let me know what you think via commenting on this blog post.
Download it here FOR FREE, support the artists on the mix and check the tracklistings after the jump.
Oh and by the way, for those who are interested – my gym regime is going really very well however I didn’t realise how much money I’d have to spend on new clothes as my old ones don’t fit me any more!
INTRODUCING: MELANIE FIONA
Last night (25th March) I had the pleasure of up and coming Canadian artist Melanie Fiona performing live and exclusively on my 1Xtra show.
Melanie is signed to the same label that launched the career of Akon and her debut album “The Bridge” is due out later this year. There’s a huge buzz about her both stateside and over here – especially after her supporting Kanye West on the european dates of his Glow In The Dark tour.
She came with Jeremy, her guitarist and 3 songs – the current single “Give It To Me Right”, a great Beatles cover version and her second single “Ay Yo”. Check out the session and interview in full on the BBC iPlayer now. She’s damn good!
BIZZLE & DONAE’O TAKEOVER!
Last week my Jam Hot was Lethal Bizzle’s brand new track “Go Hard” featuring and produced by man of the moment (and crown King of Funky) Donae’o.
Last thursday I had the pair pass by 1Xtra towers and we spoke about the past, present & future. Bizzle came strapped with an exclusive from his forthcoming 3rd album and the pair performed “Go Hard” live for the first time ever. Here’s what happened:
IRONIK, CHIPMUNK & ELTON JOHN (VIDEO)
The new video for Ironik’s next single ‘Tiny Dancer’ has hit the net:
I can’t knock Ironik – his hustle is strong and his (very large) fanbase will love this. The fact that Elton has not only cleared the sample but also allowed Ironik to use the original master tapes to get the accapella of his original “Tiny Dancer” is a very huge look. It’s all about TRC’s bassline mix though – the original version is a bit too High School Musical for me. What do you think?
T2 – JAM SESSION
Last week on 1Xtra, my monthly live music session from the legendary Maida Vale studios came from Leeds’ bassline don T2 who took the chance to showcase some of his brand new material forthcoming on his own label ‘Powerhouse Records’.

He was joined by the UK legend who is Michelle Escoffery (who is also the featured vocalist on his current single “Come Over”) and future star H-Boogie.Â
I’ve been telling people for years about H Boogie ever since I saw her singing backup for older sister Estelle and now it seems she’s ready to step out as her own artist and I for one am very excited to hear what she comes up with. Right now though, it’s all about her two collabos with T2 – “On The Floor” and the track that you can download for free from the 1Xtra site “Better Off As Friends (La La La)”
Check out the video from the session:
SNOOP vs CHASE & STATUS
Don’t you love it when you wake up to some good ish in your inbox?:

“After hearing Chase & Status ‘EASTERN JAM’ via a mutual friend, Snoop Dogg and US production team Wild Animals created something really special. ‘SNOOP DOGG MILLIONAIRE’ – It’s a ground-breaking moment for dub-step showing the genre’s potential as a chart-topping form of music on both sides of the pond.”
This is nothing less than major and a great look for not only Chase & Status who are smashing EVERYTHING to pieces at the moment but also the dubstep scene. Now, all we need to do is convince Jigga to jump on Rusko’s “Cockney Thug” and 50 to jump on Magnetic Man’s “Cyberman” and we’re set!
If you want to hear it, check me on 1Xtra tonight. I’ll play it around 7.45pm.
UPDATE: Everyone else has posted it so in the words of George Clinton in House Party, 2 tears in a bucket, f*ck it, let’s take it to the stage….
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
I’ll still play it tonight along with Goldie’s new dubstep track but if you can’t wait, download here
50 TRACKS IN 20 MINUTES MIX
A few weeks ago, Dellessa – my producer at Radio 1 – decided to challenge me to mix 50 tracks in 20 minutes. She agreed that if I managed to do it, she’d do a mix on my Radio 1 show of old skool garage using vinyl. Now, Dellessa can’t mix so you know I had to pull this one off. To make it even harder, 4 Radio 1 DJ’s decided to pitch in and throw me their suggestions for tracks I could throw in! Did I pull it off? Course I did and here’s the evidence:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
So hold tight for Dellessa’s “Clanging with the Classics” UKG mix coming soon to my show on Radio 1 – Sunday mornings from 3am! Tracklistings after the jump…
C.A.N.S
I have decided to start a new Coalition Against New Skanks aka C.A.N.S. Why? Well, it’s getting a bit bate actually.
First came the Head Shoulders Knees and Toes – clever, fun, easy to do. It spawned so many remixes and of course the (future) award winning parody ‘Egg Soldiers Beans & Toast’.
Then came Jump In The Middle And Skank – it had sick production, it was fun, it was catchy.
Then came the Tribal Skank – ridiculous production, energetic, original.
Then came the Migraine Skank – good use of big riddims, easy to do dance that wouldn’t make you look too waste on the dancefloor.
And then that’s when the funky scene was overwhelmed with the sound of the bottom of a barrel being scraped.
The Ring A Roses Skank – overly complicated & swagger jacking a sick beat
and now, the JUNGLE MAN Skank – well, make up your own mind:
I have seen people tribal skanking, heads shoulders-ing, jump in the middle & skanking and migraine skanking it out but I have NEVER seen anyone in a club ring a roses skanking or jungle man skanking. Will I ever or will C.A.N.S save the day before Gus from Eastenders invents the highly complicated ‘Wasteman Skank’?
PAR’D BY MICHAEL PART 2
Previously on the blog. Tonight I got home, sat and waited for another email to come through regarding my presale MJ ticket reservation – I’m feeling like Charlie when he bought that last bar of Wonka chocolate hoping for a golden ticket. Then I refresh my email – THERE’S AN EMAIL THERE FROM MICHAELJACKSONLIVE.COM – THIS COULD BE IT…but instead of IT, I get this steaming piece of turd:
Michael Jackson Presale Update!
Thank you for registering for your chance to join the Michael Jackson presale. You might have heard the exciting announcement that we have now sold the presale ticket allocation for 30 shows.
But here’s the really good news! Michael Jackson has agreed to add even more shows, so you still have a chance to get tickets on presale. We will be back in action at 7am (GMT), tomorrow 12 March.
If you havent yet received a presale code theres still a chance you will. So keep your eyes peeled and keep checking your inbox!
And remember if you miss out on the presale there will be tickets available on every show at the public on sale from 7am (GMT) 13 March
So regardless of the fact that I registered for presale tickets before the press conference had finished, I now have to continue to wait and hope I get a code before 7am (highly unlikely) or join the public scrum for tickets on Friday (where I’ll probably not have an internet connection at 7am thanks to staying in a hotel) but you’ve got my details to market crap concerts and merchandise to me?
AW HELL TO THE NAW.
You’d think looking at the time I registered for the presale, when the additional dates were released, I’d have been given a code. Obviously not. Michael, I’m feeling really very par’d by your AEG Live friends right now. Even worse than that is the only tickets you can buy on general sale at the moment are Thriller Hospitality Package tickets but good seats + champagne VIP reception (incl. red carpet) + after show party (with no guarantee of Michael showing) + goodie bag does not = the £790 they want for EACH TICKET!
Looks like I’ll be pulling out my Moonwalker VHS and wishing I was there just like I did in the 80′s and 90′s…
You’re Only Young Once
After laryngitis stopped my appearance last time I was booked, this thursday sees my triumphant return to the legendary YOYO at Notting Hill Arts Club in West London ‘longside Seb “A&R Genius” Chew and Leo “Greenmoney” Greenslade.

Expect major murkage of epic proportions. If you’re not there, you love Cliff.
