RIZ MC & THE FONEJACKER ARE BLOWING PEOPLE AWAY!

“Four Lions” seems to be the British film that’s blowing everyone away at this years Sundance Film Festival. It’s produced by Chris Morris – the man behind The Day Today & Brass Eye – and stars the mega talented Riz MC alongside Kayvan Novak aka The Fonejacker, Arsher Ali and Adeel Akhtar.

It’s a dark comedy about four clueless suicide bombers from Sheffield who attempt to create a terrorist attack during the London Fun Run. I have to admit the first time I heard about this film I was a bit unsure but after seeing this hilarious clip I can see why it’s getting the attention it deserves.

RIVERSIDE

Everyone’s going crazy over the Sidney Samson track that damaged so many resorts this Summer & I’ve been spinning on 1Xtra and Radio 1 since August. Well, the track is getting an official release in January 2010 on Data/Ministry of Sound, comes with some amazing remixes courtesy of Breakage & Lil Silva and nearly tears the place apart whenever I spin it in clubs.

For those people wondering where the ‘Riverside motherf*****’ sample the track is built around came from, it’s from one of my favourite films ever ‘Juice’ which was released in the early 90’s and starred a then unknown Tupac alongside Omar Epps & Khalil Kain. This is a classic film that belongs in everyone’s collection and the clip below shows where Sidney Samson got the sample from – caution, it contains swearing & violence

So now you know. “Riverside MOTHERFUDGER!!”

P-MONEY’S ANGELS

P-Money’s doing some next level ish once more. Not content with just doing a standard music video for his new song ‘Angels’, he’s decided to make a mini movie or (as he puts it) create “a movie trailer concept”. Take a look at this:

He’s also gone the whole hog and taken out bus stop adverts in his native New Zealand to promote the “movie trailer concept”. UK artists, take note!

NOEL WINS

Noel Clarke - BAFTA Rising Star 2009 winner

The writer & actor of KiDULTHOOD and writer, actor and director of AdULTHOOD has just been named the winner of the BAFTA Rising Star award 2009 which was voted in it’s entirety by the public. Good news for Noel fans and a well deserved win – congratulations to him!

As I said before, just so long as either Noel or my old friend Toby won, all would be right with the world. As good as Michael Cera is, he’s not in the same class.

DANCE FLICK

I’m a sucker for stupid films and even more so, I’m a sucker for stupid films with the Wayans Brothers involved in there somewhere so this is right up my street:

“OOOOOH THIS IS MY SONG!!!!”

I hope this doesn’t disappoint like White Chicks did!

DIDDY’S BIGGIE BLOGS

Diddy’s thoughts on Notorious:

Diddy’s LA Story – Biggie was supposed to be in London when he was killed:

Wow.

And for the idiots posting comments on these youtube videos: Biggie > 2Pac.

BAFTA RISING STAR AWARD

The British Academy of Film And Television Arts Rising Star award nominees were recently announced and unlike any other BAFTA award, the winner of this is determined by our votes. The 5 nominees were Michael Cera (from Superbad and Arrested Development), Rebecca Hall (no, I don’t know who she is either), Michael Fassbender (imagine a Jamaican with that last name…wouldn’t happen would it) and Noel “Kidulthood to Adulthood” Clarke and Toby Kebbell.

The award is a pretty big deal as the previous winners have gone on to great success (Shia LeBouf and James “Shameless” McAvoy being the last 2) and it seems that the whole grime scene has (rightly) come out in support of Noel Clarke. He’s a grafter and has done a lot for  British “urban” (because I can’t think of a better term) film. He’s given a lot of actors in London a platform with his films Kidulthood and Adulthood and of course repped in Dr Who and is definitely deserving of the award but my vote goes to Toby Kebbell.

I’ve known Toby for over 10 years as we’re both former members of the Junior Television Workshop in Nottingham and while I haven’t spoken or seen him in the last couple thanks to lost phones and number changes; as an actor, he really takes his craft seriously and grafts hard to make his performances not only believable but real. You might not have seen Control (which is a really good film) but chances are you’ve seen Rock’N'Rolla (aka Guy Richie’s only decent film other than Lock Stock & Snatch) and saw him smack it with his film stealing performance as Johnny Quid.

I, of course, am biased and while I’ll vote for both, Toby will get a couple more votes from me. Either way, if Fassbender, Cera or Hall win – we’ve all failed! If you want to vote click here or text the surname of the actor you want to win to 82058 (so for Toby Kebbell text KEBBELL to 82058 and for Noel Clarke text CLARKE to 82058). T’s & C’s are on the Bafta website.

And if either Noel or Toby are reading this – you need to do a film together. THAT would smash it to pieces. Oh and Biaja, my number’s the same. When we meeting up for a drink? ;-)

Just got my hands on the soundtrack to the film Notorious which had it’s US Premiere last night in LA and it’s actually quite a good compilation of some of Biggie’s greatest hits along with a couple of the original demos that got him signed to Bad Boy and a couple of new tracks fron Biggie’s friends and family:

Now we already know that CJ looks a lot like his dad, but what do you think of his rhyming skills?
