BASEMENT JAXX – SCARS

As a DJ, I regularly get sent advance promo copies of albums and singles. Some are great, some not so; but every now and then you get really excited about getting your hands on something you’ve waited for – knowing that you’re getting it before the mass public. A couple of weeks ago, I got my hands on this:

Photobucket

Loving this album right now, Basement Jaxx have really gone in and delivered with this album. The promo CD is in my car and is on near consistent rotation right now. As a Jaxx fan, they’ve taken it back to the anything goes vibe of Rooty and have got a guest list that includes artists as diverse as Sam Sparro, Santigold, Paloma Faith and even Yoko Ono!

The track that is KILLING it for me right now is one that I had to pester the label into allowing me to get the radio exclusive first play of (Shouts to Chris & Hannah); a track featuring Vula, Meleka, Kelis and Chipmunk on the title track called ‘Scars’:

MOBO AWARDS 2009

Tonight on my show I had the pleasure of being controvertial! Along with the ever glamourous gossip queen Max, we revealed the MOBO Awards 2009 nominations.

mobo starry nite

Lots of “WTF??” moments including Jeremih being nominated for Best R&B before he’s even released a record in the UK; Dublin’s Laura Izibor being nominated in the Best UK newcomer category; Dizzee’s “Bonkers” not being nominated in the Best Song category and Drake being nominated in 2 categories (look, while Drake is definitely the future of HipHop, the nomination feels a little premature as it comes before any official release…)

Then there were a good few surprising but for the right reason moments including Donae’o getting a nomination for Best UK Act; my boy Bashy getting 2 nominations (Best UK Act & Best Album for “Catch Me If You Can”) and JLS getting a nomination for best song for “Beat Again” (we all know it was my remix that got them the nomination!) and of course me being nominated in the Best DJ category. Yes, you read it correctly:

I’ve been nominated for a MOBO in the Best DJ Category!!!

It’s my first MOBO nomination and as I’m sure you can imagine, I’m overly chuffed! I remember watching the first MOBOs on TV wishing I was there & dreaming of winning an award. Now, I’m nominated and it’s a possibility I could win.

I’m up against some very stiff competition including a couple of legendary DJs who have inspired me in the past and more than a couple of colleagues (full list below) but if you feel like you like what I do on the radio, in the club and on the blogs please register here or click on the picture and vote for the youngest DJ nominated in 2009!

Vote MistaJam in Best DJ category!

And remember, a vote for me is a vote for the underground! Find out who wins what on 30th September 2009.

INTRODUCING: MISTAJAM PRESENTS SPEAKERBOX

MistaJam Presents Speakerbox (Blue Crop)
SPEAKERBOX is the chance for MistaJam to take a host of first-rate cutting edge talent in the form of deejays, producers, artists and performers on the road with him; all of whom he has been championing across his radio shows in recent months. A 14 date tour spanning the country will kick off in May and will see Jam overtaking festivals and clubs as well as Radio 1’s flagship Weekender. For one special show (on May 30th) MistaJam will also team up with the charity Love Music, Hate Racism.

Something that sets MistaJam apart from his peers is his diversity. He is the figurehead of the concept that the barriers between musical genres are being broken down: Dance producers are working with Urban artists. Drum & Bass heads are making Dubstep. R&B singers are singing over House tracks. Indie bands are embracing keyboards and breakbeats over guitars and amplifiers. Jamaican Dancehall riddim builders are making UK Funky. Armand Van Helden, Calvin Harris and The Arctic Monkeys are making music with Dizzee Rascal. Grime artists Wiley, Tinchy Stryder and Kano are riding high in the national charts with electro records. MistaJam Presents Speakerbox is here to represent that in a club setting. Bringing it back to the ethos of good music is good music regardless of where it came from.

MistaJam rocks every Saturday night into Sunday morning (3am-5am) on Radio 1 while every weeknight from 7-10pm he is in charge on 1Xtra with a show dubbed the ‘Key To The Underground’.

MistaJam’s SPEAKERBOX is going to be one hell of a party! Keep locked to SpeakerBoxTour.com for the most up to date info, tour blogs, photos and more.

BASHY – WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE (VIDEO)

The Bashy former world exclusive on my Radio 1 show now has a video:

Shouts to Bish Bash Bosh, Toddla T on the beat, Des, George, CJ and the GGI familia. This tracks is HUGE – any DJ’s who aren’t playing it are waste. Simple as.

Can’t wait to see his performance at Radio 1’s Big Weekend this year during my set on the outdoor stage.

IRONIK, CHIPMUNK & ELTON JOHN (VIDEO)

The new video for Ironik’s next single ‘Tiny Dancer’ has hit the net:

I can’t knock Ironik – his hustle is strong and his (very large) fanbase will love this. The fact that Elton has not only cleared the sample but also allowed Ironik to use the original master tapes to get the accapella of his original “Tiny Dancer” is a very huge look. It’s all about TRC’s bassline mix though – the original version is a bit too High School Musical for me. What do you think?

NEW KIDBASE FT SINCERE – 6AM

Shouts to Sincere, he hooked me up with a copy of this a couple of weeks ago. ‘6am’ features fellow a-listers Scorcher, Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32, Mark Henry & Chipmunk. It could be the B-Side to the monster ‘Good Girls Love Rudeboys’ which now has a release date of 20th April.

They does this!
