GIGGS VIDEO EXCLUSIVE

It got it’s world premiere on my show, it’s only right the video gets the same treatment – Giggs ft The Streets “Slow Songs”

Big shouts to Giggs, Mike, Ted, Chantelle & the whole team.

DRAKE – BEST I EVER HAD (VIDEO)

Everyone’s talking about Canadian emcee Drake. Rihanna’s dating him, every emcee is rating him & even 1 of the female producers at 1Xtra says his mixtapes do strange things to her to the point where she’s ready to do naughty things with random bus drivers! There’s no denying that 2009 is shaping up to be Drake’s year. He’s now even managed to get Kanye to direct the video for his big record ‘Best I Ever Had’:

Here’s hoping he’s not another Papoose Pap-poose.

MR HUDSON & KANYE WEST – SUPERNOVA (VIDEO)

Finally the video to the former Jam Hot and one of the Soundtracks To The Summer is here – Mr Hudson ft Kanye West’s EPIC Supernova.

Been waiting for this one for a while – apparently this is edit 8. That’s what you get when you’re working with perfectionists!

CHIPMUNK – DIAMOND RINGS (VIDEO)

After the record got it’s world premiere during my clash with Zane Lowe on 1Xtra & Radio 1, you know I had to post the video!

Go Chipmunk, go Chipmunk go!

Taken from his major label (Columbia) debut album “I Am…Chipmunk” released soon

INTRODUCING: MISTAJAM PRESENTS SPEAKERBOX

MistaJam Presents Speakerbox (Blue Crop)
SPEAKERBOX is the chance for MistaJam to take a host of first-rate cutting edge talent in the form of deejays, producers, artists and performers on the road with him; all of whom he has been championing across his radio shows in recent months. A 14 date tour spanning the country will kick off in May and will see Jam overtaking festivals and clubs as well as Radio 1’s flagship Weekender. For one special show (on May 30th) MistaJam will also team up with the charity Love Music, Hate Racism.

Something that sets MistaJam apart from his peers is his diversity. He is the figurehead of the concept that the barriers between musical genres are being broken down: Dance producers are working with Urban artists. Drum & Bass heads are making Dubstep. R&B singers are singing over House tracks. Indie bands are embracing keyboards and breakbeats over guitars and amplifiers. Jamaican Dancehall riddim builders are making UK Funky. Armand Van Helden, Calvin Harris and The Arctic Monkeys are making music with Dizzee Rascal. Grime artists Wiley, Tinchy Stryder and Kano are riding high in the national charts with electro records. MistaJam Presents Speakerbox is here to represent that in a club setting. Bringing it back to the ethos of good music is good music regardless of where it came from.

MistaJam rocks every Saturday night into Sunday morning (3am-5am) on Radio 1 while every weeknight from 7-10pm he is in charge on 1Xtra with a show dubbed the ‘Key To The Underground’.

MistaJam’s SPEAKERBOX is going to be one hell of a party! Keep locked to SpeakerBoxTour.com for the most up to date info, tour blogs, photos and more.

GIGGS FT THE STREETS **EXCLUSIVE**

Last night my 1Xtra show was taken over by Mike Skinner aka The Streets. He brought the rest of his Beat Stevie family (Ted Mayhem & Magic Mike Millrain) and we had a great time: some laughs, some big tunes, we talked the twitter revolution, played the last ever skini-mix and a span a load of exclusives. All in all, a pretty hosh show. You can check the entire thing on the iPlayer here but we have to highlight the huge exclusive that Mike brought us:

Yes, Mike has produced a track for the ardest pon road Giggs and it got it’s world premiere on the show. Giggs ft The Streets “Slow Songs”

Here’s Mike talking about how the track came together:

This is by far my favourite Giggs track. What do you think?

PRO GREEN – HARD NIGHT OUT (VIDEO)

Formerly signed to The Streets, my boy Professor Green has just finished a very unique and different video for his first single ‘Hard Night Out’. Alongside hypeman and producer Core is Adam Deacon on the drums and a host of characters acting really hard. He didn’t call me to appear in the video as I couldn’t apparently act ‘hard enough’!

Hard Night Out is out on July 6th 2009 – watch out for a remix from Skream!

Q TIP LIVE (THE AUDIO!)

Previously on the blog…

Well, if you were watching The Apprentice or the England match rather than listening to me on Wednesday night, you missed out on hearing some HipHop history. Just to show I don’t hold a grudge, here is Q Tip recorded live at The Roundhouse, Camden, North London as broadcast by me on 1Xtra:

Tracklisting:

Dance On Glass
Find A Way
Bonita Applebum
Electric Relaxation
Scenario
Check The Rhyme
Getting Up
Vivrant Thing
Award Tour

Amazing right? Although after hearing it I’m extra p*ssed I didn’t get to see it in person!

MINIPIECES

All this week on my 1Xtra show, I’ve been breaking down some masterpiece HipHop albums on fast forward with my Minipieces feature (the name will change for the future, don’t watch that!).

We tackled a decade a day with one album representing each of the last 3 decades and of course a litle nod to a current album aka a future classic.

80′s – De La Soul – 3 Feet High & Rising

90′s – Nas – Illmatic

00′s – Kanye West – The College Dropout

08/09 – Lil Wayne – The Carter 3

DE LA SOUL: MINIPIECES

De La Soul – 3 Feet High And Rising

Every day on the 1Xtra show this week, I’ll be bringing you bonafide Hip Hop classics on fast forward to warm you up for this weekend’s 30 years of Hip Hop celebrations on 1Xtra & Radio 1 with the Minipieces (mini masterpieces – geddit?). We’re tackling an album per decade per day – Monday is the 80′s and De La Soul’s seminal ’3 Feet High And Rising’ from 1989 reps for the decade.

I remember first hearing this on a tape my dad was given by a friend at his work. My dad liked “Me, Myself and I” and “Eye Know” but wasn’t too keen on the rest of the album. Even though I was 6 at the time, I loved it and it got rinsed alongside the tapes of 80′s soul and the Janet Jackson ‘Control’ album my uncle had done for me. It was my first ever Hip Hop album and was only surpassed by MC Hammer’s ‘Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em’ as my favourite a year later in 1990… what? I was only young!

Where were you when you first heard it? Which Hip Hop album would be your 80′s Minipiece?

Tomorrow Nas’ “Illmatic” represents for the 90′s.
